Three Stars and A Wish

I love the praise points and teaching point’s idea.  I think it is a great way for students to nurture their skills and help them help themselves.  It is like the three stars and one wish I use to help my students develop their writing skills.  As students examine their peers writing materials, they praise each other by awarding three stars (what strategies did the student use in their writings?) and one wish.  The wish points out to the student something they may have forgotten to do when he/she wrote their sentence (period, capital, make sense, connected to their picture etc.).  When we use the praise and teaching points, we allow students to come another step closer to understanding how to “grow” literacy.
