France

Yesterday we celebrated France with Mrs. Straka's Fourth Graders. We celebrated the French culture with food, crafts, singing, games and stories. The fourth graders from Mrs. Straka’s class were our tour guides. Each student was responsible to guide a group of 2-4 Kindergarten students through six centers.

The Craft Center

Each child created an artistic mosaic window pictures. Using a variety of colored tissue paper squares children created works of art just as the great artist in France may have done for centuries.

The Story Center

Each child listened to the stories of Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans. We pin pointed on a map, all of the places that Madeline traveled throughout the story.

The Writing Center/Our Suitcases

We began a traveling suitcase which will house a reflective piece of writing for each student about the country of study. Today we drew pictures and wrote about what we have learned about France. We liked the bread and cheese and jam, making the flag and playing hopscotch called Escargot.

The Game Center

We learned that the oldest known hopscotch board is Escargot. Shaped like a snail the children had to throw their markers in toward the center and hop in and out of the snail shell.  We took turns and enjoyed playing hopscotch.  Hopping backwards is harder than you think.

The Food and Cultural Artifact Center

We enjoyed French bread and cheese or jam while looking at many pictures, maps.

The Flag Center

We looked at the flag of France and colored a red, white, blue flag to take home.

Our French International Celebration was a huge success. We look forward to our Celebration of Mexico next month. This will be our last celebration of a country for the year.  We then will present a power point presentation to the whole school to share all the culture experienced through our virtual reality trip around the world.
